How do I get there?

Fly from your hometown to the Island of Tortola in the British Virgin Islands (BVI). Most flights arrive via San Juan, Puerto Rico. We suggest checking prices at American Airlines, Jet Blue, Spirit Air and Caribbean Sun Airlines. (You actually fly into Beef Island which is connected by bridge to Tortola.) From the airport you can catch a taxi ($30) to the pier or your hotel. Please, double check with your airline regarding the maximum allowable weight for overseas bags. Some airlines allow 70 pounds, while others only allow bags weighing 50 pounds or less. Airfare is not included in your DRE excursion rates. Therefore, airfare into Tortola-Beef Island, BVI is your responsibility. If you have any questions they will be promptly answered by email or phone.

Can I stay longer?
You may want to arrive a day or two early or depart a day or two after your voyage. If so, you should make hotel reservations early. We recommend Nanny Cay, Maria’s By The Sea, Lambert Resort, Treasure Island or go to www.britishvirginislands.com to check on locations, availability and pricing. You may rent cars at ITGO car rental for about $50/day. You will have to purchase a temporary driver’s license, show a valid US driver’s license, and have a major credit card. If you wish to make a jaunt to a neighboring island there are water-taxis that run daily for a fee.

What do I bring?

Not much. Bring your valid passport and another form of picture ID, like a valid driver’s license. A credit card and some cash – US currency is the standard. A mailing of FAQ and a traveler's checklist will be sent to you once you have made your reservation.
Documents:

  • Ensure that your passport is valid for several months beyond the date of your travel (and that it contains a few blank pages for entry/exit stamps).
  • Make sure your driver’s license is also valid, and will not expire in the next few months.
  • If you plan to dive you will need your diver certification card, log book, and a valid DAN insurance card. Update your DAN insurance early at www.diversalertnetwork.org

Clothing: The attire on the boat is very casual – swimsuits and bare feet by day, shorts and shirt, or sarongs, and sandals in the evening. You might want to bring hiking sandals or shoes for exploring the trails or shopping. No dark soled shoes allowed on deck.

Dive/Snorkel gear: Swim suits, dive skin, 3ml wet suit, fins, mask, snorkel, BC, regulator & console, extra computer batteries, dive lights with extra batteries, dive cameras with extra batteries, film and memory cards. Tanks and weights will be provided. If you need to rent dive equipment, let us know and we will make the arrangements at a local dive shop.

Personal items: Sunscreen, sun glasses, hat, light sweater or wind breaker (it can get nippy after a rain shower), camera, film, extra memory cards, batteries, (there is a laptop computer on board), dry bag & mosquito repellant (if you go ashore). Personal hygiene items: toothbrush & paste, shampoo & crème rinse, soap & deodorant, prescription medication in the original bottles, etc.

Additional information and a traveler’s checklist will be provided when you book your excursion.
